“Gloryfield,” Melchior said.

“It’s been a while, hasn’t it?” Gloryfield, the Guildmaster of the Daughters of Continuum, said. “I hope you’re not too upset about my little joke.”

Gloryfield was a thin woman with white hair pulled toward the sides and into tight buns. She had a face that was mystifyingly beautiful and, in Melchior’s eyes, as fragile as a crystal mask. Her blue eyes didn’t reflect that fragility, but they looked kindly upon the one who held the opinion that they were weak. Two strands of hair framed her face, and the blue, gold-trimmed dress she wore was flattering. That dress, with a cleavage window that accentuated her modest chest and a cut around the legs that showed off her thighs, was as elegant as it was expensive. But this dress did not sway Melchior.

“I’m not the one you should be concerned about,” Melchior said, his tone cold and formal.

“Of course,” she said, walking over to be in front of her desk. She gestured to the coffee table and the book sitting in a glass case on top of it. “Please, be my guest...”

Natasha smiled feebly as she looked at Gloryfield from behind her bangs. “Thanks, Glory... Thanks for buying that for me...”

Natasha and Melchior approached the coffee table, with Melchior stopping in front of it. Natasha touched the glass case, and it disappeared, having been sucked into her Item Box.

“There,” Natasha said, breathing a sigh of relief. She stepped back to stand close to Melchior.

Gloryfield and Natasha exchanged smiles. “It’s good to see you again so soon, Natasha.”

“Yeah...” Natasha glanced at Melchior for the briefest moment before looking at Gloryfield again. “It’s good to see you, Glory.”

“‘So soon?’” Melchior looked at Natasha, who was looking down while twiddling her thumbs. “You saw her recently?”

Natasha looked Melchior in the eyes with fear in her own. Her voice cracked. “We meet for lunch and dinner twice a week, Melchior...” Her composure deteriorated further. “I’m sorry, Hun.”

Melk recoiled and raised a brow. “What is there to be sorry about? You can spend time with whoever you’d like, especially if they’re your friend.”

“Yeah... but...” Natasha looked at Melk, and then Gloryfield, and then Melk again. “It just feels like a betrayal... especially because it’s not like I think you’re in the wrong here...”

“No, don’t be ashamed, Natasha. This is between her and me...” Melk turned toward Gloryfield. “I wish I could be as tolerant as you are.”

Gloryfield wore a sad smile. “‘Tolerant...’ Please don’t suggest you’re intolerant. Please be kind to yourself, Melchior.”

“I’m not the one in need of my kindness.”

Gloryfield cocked her head slightly, then chuckled and smiled gently. “It’s good to see you again, Melk,” she said, moving away from the topic. She took in a deep breath as she leaned against her desk. “That plot of land you want is still secure, and the Zilmar Nation has no intention of causing you any trouble. We can assure you of that—“

“You look frailer than before, Gloryfield,” Melchior said, his face neutral but his eyes smoldering.
